As with most manufacturing industries some of the processes do have a negative impact on the environment. We have recently become one of only a handful of printers in the UK to achieve FSC and PEFC environmental accreditations.

Environmental paper for all!
Not content with just having the accreditations, KJS has negotiated a deal with paper manufacturing giant James McNaughton Group to offer FSC and PEFC stock as its house sheet at no extra cost to the client. It makes perfect sense to encourage our clients to use certified papers. Just because a paper is recycled does not mean that it is environmentally friendly, it depends on the recycling process being applied. Our customers can order from us safe in the knowledge that they are using a paper that is 100 percent traceable and good for the planet.

What is FSC paper? (Forest Stewardship Council)
The Forest Stewardship Council - FSC - is an international non-profit organisation founded in 1993 to support the world's forests. FSC members comprise of a diverse group of representatives from environmental and social groups, the timber trade, paper industry, forestry profession, indigenous people's organisations, community forestry groups and forest product certification organisations from around the world. It is their job to ensure that the forests are managed to protect wildlife habitat and respect the rights of local communities.

Chain Of Custody
FSC Chain of Custody is the process by which the source of a timber product is verified. Certification involves inspection and auditing of the land from which the timber and pulpwood originate and tracking it through all the steps of the production process until it reaches the end user. Only when this tracking has been independently verified is the product is eligible to carry the FSC Logo. All products carrying the FSC Logo have been independently certified as coming from forests that meet the internationally recognised FSC Principles and Criteria of Forest Stewardship. You will see many FSC timber and paper products on the high street, in Bodyshop, B&Q, Homebase and Tesco's for example.

For a printed product to carry the logo it must be printed on FSC Paper by an FSC Certified Printing Company. Using FSC Papers for your printing is an effective way to demonstrate your commitment to sustainability. Many companies are increasingly specifying FSC Papers as their pledge to a greener world. 

FSC Certified Paper tells you exactly what you need to know; that the recycled or virgin fibre content of the paper comes from sources that meet FSC international standards. This is why the FSC  certification system is supported by environmental organisations such as the World Wildlife Fund, Rain Forest Alliance, Greenpeace, Woodland Trust and Friends of the Earth.

At KJS we recycle more than 90% of waste that would have once been destined for the landfill site. All Paper, polythene and card board products are recycled by approved suppliers.

We also moved into computer to plate technology for our five colour printing press earlier this year which is inherently greener than imaging film as a chemical process step is eliminated. All of our printing is produced using vegetable based printing inks instead of the industry standard mineral oil based products.
